and Randy Jackson, Jun.23,1956(Sun in Cancer)on AMERICAN IDOL
Simon Cowell (born 7 October 1959) is an English artist and repertoire ("A&R") executive for Sony BMG in the United Kingdom, but is known as a judge on television programs such as Pop Idol, The X Factor, American Idol and Britain's Got Talent. He is notorious for his unsparingly blunt and often controversial criticism of the contestants. He is known for combining activities in the television and music industries, having produced singles and records for various television characters.

Early life
Simon Cowell was born in Brighton, East Sussex in the United Kingdom and brought up in Elstree, Hertfordshire. His father, Eric Philip Cowell, was a property developer and music industry executive, and his mother, Julie Brett (née Josie Dalglish) is a former dancer and socialite. Cowell's paternal grandparents, Joseph Cowell and Esther Malinsky, were English Jews, and his maternal grandfather was Scottish. He has three half-brothers; Michael, John (millionaire business development and marketing consultant), and Tony (co-author of Cowell's autobiography), and a half-sister, June (who lives with her Spanish daughters in Majorca, Spain), and younger brother Nicholas Cowell who is now a millionaire property magnate.
Cowell attended Dover College as did his brother, but left early before Sixth Form. He took a few menial jobs, but did not get along well with co-workers and bosses, until his father who was executive at the recording giant at EMI Music Publishing, managed to get him a job in the mail room.

Professional career
In 1984, Cowell met up with Pete Waterman for the first time. Waterman was previously known for being a founding member of the Stock Aitken Waterman songwriting and record producing trio. One year later, Cowell and Iain Burton, a fellow clerk, left EMI and formed an independent record label called Fanfare Records. Waterman who helped him regain success during the second half of the 1980s. Cowell would later describe in interviews (and in his autobiography I Don't Mean to be Rude, but...) that he learned more from Waterman in a short time than he could have in an entire career with any major label. Fanfare enjoyed success with its artist - and Cowell's girlfriend at the time - Sinitta Malone.
His father's connections originally got him rehired as the assistant to an A&R man. From there onwards, Simon worked his way up to record producer, but left during the early 1980s to form E&S Music, an independent music company. The label folded within a year of its launch, forcing him to return to EMI.
In 1989, Fanfare's mother company folded, driving Cowell's business into bankruptcy, forcing Cowell, deeply in debt, to move back in with his parents. Later that year, he became an A&R consultant for BMG. Subsequently, Cowell signed up a number of acts to S-Records that made a mark in the pop music world, including Curiosity Killed the Cat, Sonia Evans, Five, Westlife,Robson & Jerome, and Ultimate Kaos. He also released several novelty recordings featuring the likes of wrestlers of the World Wrestling Federation, Teletubbies, Zig and Zag and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, that were huge successes. Cowell set up another label, Syco Records, in 2002 which later became part of Columbia Records and Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Artists such as Il Divo and contestants from The X Factor and America's Got Talent are released on Syco.

In 2006, Cowell signed to two more record-breaking deals. In the US, he agreed to remain as a judge on American Idol, earning £20 million ($40 million) per series for another 5 years. He also has a deal with FOX which allows his production company to broadcast Got Talent and American Inventor on other networks, but he may not appear on them. In the UK, he signed a "golden handcuffs" deal with ITV, worth approximately £6.5 million a year for 3 years, which gave ITV rights to his hit talent show The X Factor, a British singing talent show, and Grease Is The Word, a musical talent show to find the stars of a Grease production in London's West End. In late 2005, he signed a new contract to remain working for Sony BMG.

Projects
Cowell had been the producer and the creative force of many media, most notably Pop Idol and its international offspring. Beginning particularly in the 2000s, this has brought him worldwide fame and greatly increased monetary fortune.

The Idols Franchise and Il Divo
Cowell became a judge on the first season of Pop Idol in 2001, and on the first season of American Idol in 2002. His acerbic style of judging was a major reason for these shows' popularity.[citation needed] This was especially true of American Idol, where in its first season, word-of-mouth regarding "that nasty guy Simon" garnered media attention, more so than the hosts or contestants.[citation needed] Cowell's fame (or infamy) grew, fed by his signature phrase, "I don't mean to be rude, but …", inevitably followed by an unsparingly blunt appraisal of the contestant's talents, personality, or even physical appearance. Well known, media critic, Raj Sajja says, "He is absolutely fantastic and a crowd puller, besides, he is spot on, with his comments". Cowell also appeared on the one-off World Idol program in 2003, where it became clear that each country's version of the Idol had attempted to come up with its own "Simon Cowell" type personality. In 2003, Cowell placed #33 on Channel 4's list of the all-time 100 Worst Britons. Cowell's S Records signed the top two finishers of the first season of Pop Idol, Will Young and Gareth Gates, both of whom went on to have #1 UK hits. Efforts began in 2001 materialised in 2004, when Cowell returned to his group manufacturing roots with his latest brainchild, the internationally successful operatic pop group Il Divo, consisting of three opera singers and one pop singer of four different nationalities. Inspired by the success of Il Divo, Simon created a child version, Angelis, beating competition from many similar groups emerging at Christmas 2006.

The X Factor
Finally, in 2004, along with Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, Cowell was judge on the new British TV talent show The X Factor, which he created using his production company, Syco. The X Factor was an instant success with the viewers and returned for a second and third series in 2005 and 2006 . He will return for a fourth series in 2007, alongside Sharon Osbourne, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh, who before, was fired from the panel by Simon, and replaced by Brian Friedman who is a judge on Grease Is The Word. Walsh was brought back after Friedman turned down the job on the panel, and became the creative director.

American Inventor
On March 16, 2006, Simon Cowell's next competition show, American Inventor, debuted on ABC. Fledgling entrepreneurs from across the United States compete to see who can come up with the best new product concept. The 2006 winner, Janusz Liberkowski, received $1 million and the opportunity to develop his idea into a business. The show returned again in 2007.

The Got Talent Franchise
Cowell is the executive producer of America's Got Talent, along with Fremantle producers of the Idol series. The show was a huge success for NBC, drawing around 12 million viewers a week, and beating So You Think You Can Dance on FOX (produced by rival and Idol creator Simon Fuller).
A British version aired in 2007, and was screened from 9 June 2007 until 17 June 2007, with ITV screening nine episodes. Fellow judges are Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.
The Australian version aired in 2007 and was screened on 18 February 2007. Fellow judges are Tom Burlinson and Dannii Minogue Hosted by Grant Denyer on Channel Seven.
It was announced on 12 August 2007, that Cowell has axed Connie Talbot from the music business, and despite her age, Cowell thought that she needed to be old enough to experience music.

Celebrity Duets
Cowell also executive-produces Celebrity Duets, which can be described as "an Idol show for Hollywood superstars." The show is hosted by Wayne Brady, and its judges are Marie Osmond, Little Richard and David Foster.

Grease is the Word
Cowell also executive produces Grease Is the Word for ITV. Grease is the Word is the show to find the next big stars to play Danny and Sandy on the 2007 UK west end revival of Grease. The is hosted by Zoe Ball and judged by Brits David Ian and Sinitta and Americans David Gest and Brian Friedman. This hasn't turned out to be the success he imagined. Simon himself said, "It has been slaughtered by the critics - and rightly so. It is far too similar to our other formats."

Rock Rivals
Cowell is joining forces with Shed Productions, the company behind hit UK dramas Footballers' Wives and Bad Girls, to produce a new show called Rock Rivals which will be a new ITV1 drama series based on an 'X-Factor' type show.

Other activities
Cowell has been involved in charity work for many years without getting much attention from the media. He supports children from The Association Of Children’s Hospices and invites them backstage to the screenings of The X Factor. When he can, he stops by some of the hospices to visit the children.
In December 2003, Cowell published a book, I Don't Mean to Be Rude, But …. In it, he told the whole story of his childhood, his years working in music and experiences on Pop Idol, Pop Stars Rivals, and American Idol, and finally, his tips for being successful as a pop star.
Cowell has appeared as a guest voice in an episode of The Simpsons ("Smart and Smarter"), in which he gets beaten up by Homer Simpson (while criticising Homer's punches), and made an MTV Movie Award-winning cameo appearance as himself in Scary Movie 3, where he sits in judgment during a battle rap (and subsequently gets killed by gunfire for criticising the rappers). He also appears in Shrek 2 as a judge in Far Far Away Idol, and also provided the voice.
He appeared on an episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (the British version) and Saturday Night Live in 2004. Cowell has also guest-starred (filling in for Regis Philbin) in the popular talk show Live with Regis and Kelly during American Idol's finalist week in early 2006. Cowell was once the fastest "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" on BBC's motoring show Top Gear, driving a Suzuki Liana around the show's test track in a time of 1:47.1. When Top Gear retired the Liana along with its rankings after the eighth series, Cowell was the eighth fastest overall and the third fastest non-professional driver. Cowell introduced entertainer Dick Clark at the 2006 Primetime Emmy Awards and also contributed in the 2006 Queens Speech to the Nation (UK) for which he chose the title music. He was seen on Comic Relief Does The Apprentice where he donated £25,000 for a fun fair ticket. Cowell has also appeared on the MTV shows Cribs and Punk'd. On Punk'd Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson set him up to believe his $400,000 Rolls Royce was stolen and had caused an accident by using a nearly identical car.
Cowell was chosen as the first 'victim' of the re-launched This Is Your Life in an episode broadcast on 2 June 2007. He was presented with the Red Book by Sir Trevor McDonald while presenting American Idol.
Besides judging unknowns of the music industry, occasionally Cowell comments on already-established pop icons. For example, he opined in Esquire magazine that Beyoncé Knowles was overrated, and that Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" was one of the best pop records ever made. Talking about Christina herself Cowell stated "She is an unbelievable talent.
On July 1, 2007 Cowell appeared alongside Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest as a speaker at the Concert For Diana, held at Wembley Stadium.

Personal life
In late 2002, Cowell started dating longtime friend Terri Seymour. In 2006, British newspaper News of the World reported that he had cheated on Seymour with model and socialite Jasmine Lennard, and printed photos of her leaving his home. Photos of a visibly irate Seymour (who was in the US when the story broke) being met at the airport by Cowell were later published in Heat Magazine. However, both Cowell and Lennard, who was also in a relationship, denied that anything untoward had occurred, and attributed the meeting to business.
Upon his appearance on Top Gear, it was revealed that Cowell pays more than £21.7m per year in income tax, suggesting that his taxable income is over £54.25m per year with income tax at the time approximately 40%. (NB: UK Income Tax 40% for earnings over £39,825).
He appeared on the gameshow Sale of the Century in 1990, as reported in The Sun Newspaper.
He is the godfather of pop singer Sinitta's baby.
He is 5ft 9in tall.[16]

Who is , Ryan Seacrest, Who hosts the most popular show of the world, American Idol !

Birthplace

Atlanta, GA

With his thriving broadcasting career and multiple ventures in media, it's no wonder Ryan Seacrest is at the forefront of entertainment. While hosting and producing multiple television and radio programs, building his Ryan Seacrest Production Company (RSP) into a viable entity that creates content for all media platforms, and investing in a myriad of restaurant ventures, Ryan is redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur and a quadruple threat in Hollywood. DETAILS magazine crowned him one of its "Mavericks" for 2007. Recently bestowed a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame, the single Ryan has twice been voted a Most Eligible Bachelor by PEOPLE magazine, and he was included on the publication's coveted 50 Most Beautiful list. In 2006 and 2007, Ryan was named on FORBES Magazine's annual Celebrity 100 Power List, joining Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey and Tiger Woods.

In January, Ryan returns to host the seventh season of AMERICAN IDOL. With his winning personality, the series has become a bona fide cultural phenomenon, making Ryan a household name in the process.

Ryan recently gained critical acclaim for his scene-stealing cameo in the summer hit "Knocked Up." The film shows audiences a different side of Ryan when he launches into a riotous rant denouncing the superficial workings of the entertainment industry.

In January 2006, the multitasking Ryan signed an agreement with E! Networks calling for an extensive on-air presence as well as broad development and production under the banner of RSP, which is housed at E!'s headquarters in Los Angeles. He currently serves as managing editor and lead anchor for "E! News," with Giuliana DePandi, and as executive producer and host of the network's popular "Live From the Red Carpet" specials, which cover the most exclusive red carpets in Hollywood.

Ryan also reaches millions through the world's most popular radio countdown show, "American Top 40," which he took over from radio legend Casey Kasem. "American Top 40" remains an institution in radio, and with Ryan at the helm, it is heard on more stations and in larger markets than ever before. Since his debut, the show has more than doubled its listenership. Radio stations nationwide access the show via satellite or the Internet, ensuring up-to-the minute music chart information.

Locally, Ryan took over the most coveted radio job in Los Angeles three years ago on its Top-40 radio powerhouse, 102.7 KIIS-FM. Since the February 2004 debut of "On Air with Ryan Seacrest," the program has become the No. 1 morning show in L.A., broadcasting weekdays from 5:00-10:00 AM.

Ryan's entrepreneurial endeavors under the RSP umbrella, in addition to the production of broadcast media, include part ownership in Los Angeles and Las Vegas hotspots. Currently Ryan is a part owner of such popular Los Angeles-area restaurants as Katana, Sushi Roku and Boa.

Originally from Atlanta, Ryan started his career in broadcasting at the age of 16, when he applied for an internship at one of Atlanta's top radio stations, WSTR-STAR 94. While working at STAR 94, he finished high school and went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he majored in Journalism. During his freshman year in college, he was offered his first television show as the host of ESPN's "Radical Outdoor Challenge," in which athletes competed against one another for cash prizes.

Ryan currently lives in Los Angeles.

Ryan Seacrest - The Host Of American Idol

Ryan Seacrest

Ryan Seacrest

Ryan Seacrest was the host of the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards that aired live last night and let’s just say he didn't get the best of reviews.

The ratings were the second lowest ever coming in at 13.1 million viewers.

I didn’t actually watch the show so I can’t judge on his hosting abilities. Did you guys think Ryan sucked?

I'm sure Ryan isn't getting too bent out of shape about his horrible ratings, he has 100 other jobs to fall back on.

Full Biography »
Simon began his career in the music industry back in 1979, when he joined EMI Music Publishing. Having learnt what it took to make a hit record, he was quick to set up his own label, ‘Fanfare’ with partner Iain Burton.

Proving that he had an ear for a hit, BMG offered Simon the position of A&R Consultant in 1989. His time at BMG saw him pioneer some of the biggest selling hits in the industry, including bands 'Five' and 'Westlife'. He can also be credited with the emergence of TV hits from the likes of cartoon puppets 'Zig & Zag', 'The Teletubbies' and 'Robson & Jerome'.

Not only has Simon made records, he also breaks them: over a ten year period, via his company ‘S Records’, he has achieved sales of over 25 million albums, over 70 top 30 records, and 17 Number 1 singles. His band 'Westlife' has achieved an impressive 10 Number 1 hits alone.

Following the success of the 'Popstars' TV series, Simon joined forces with Simon Fuller to produce a ‘talent’ show where the public decides who wins. This show became the TV phenomenon, ‘Pop Idol’.

‘Pop Idol’ became compulsive viewing, attracting over 11 million viewers. The first ever winner, Will Young, picked up 4.6 million votes in a live final. Despite Simon favouring the runner-up, Gareth Gates, Will Young’s debut release 'Evergreen'/'Anything Is Possible', broke the record for the biggest selling debut single ever - reaching 1.8 million sales. Thanks to Simon cropping up in the ‘production’ credits of most of his artists' records, he has cleverly managed to secure himself a share of the royalties.

Despite his successes, Simon has also turned down many bands that went on to find success elsewhere – most notably ‘The Spice Girls’ and ‘Take That’, simply because he thought Gary Barlow was too fat to be a star!

Simon has now become a celebrity in his own right, serving as a judge on both the UK and US version of the ‘Pop Idol’ show. He spends his time between the UK and America, and has set up his own production company, Syco TV, which co-produced the latest breed of talent show – ‘The X Factor'.

Life appears to very sweet indeed for Simon Cowell. The Sunday Times Rich List recently estimated that he earned £33.5m in one year alone, thanks to the global success of the 'Pop Idol' brand.

Trivia

Simon dropped out of high school at age 16. (edit) Says that the first time he gave a criticism was at age four when he looked at his mother's white fuzzy pillbox hat and remarked, "Mum, you look like a poodle" (edit) During auditions for The X Factor, he made a bet with auditionee Paul Holt that he would pay him £50,000 if he got a #1 single. Holt was quickly signed by a record label - and backed by X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne - to release "50 Grand for Christmas" in December 2004, which only charted at #35 in the UK. (edit) Simon is a vegetarian. (edit) Paula, Randy, and Ryan all have their own stars on the "Walk of Fame", and Simon is the only American Idol judge/host to not have a star. (edit) His western astrological sign is Libra. (edit) His chinese astrological sign is Pig. (edit) Is 25 percent Scottish on his mothers side. He first said this on the X Factor, and the following week claimed he was 50 percent. His mother then confirmed in the Sunday newspapers that he was only 25 percent Scottish. (edit) Simon was once the fastest Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, on BBC's motoring show Top Gear, driving a Suzuki Liana around the show's test track in a time of 1:47.1. When Top Gear retired the Liana along with the Liana's driver rankings after the eighth series, Simon was the eighth fastest overall and the third fastest non-professional driver. (edit) Simon's company, E&S Music, imploded and Simon was forced to return to EMI. Along with fellow EMI clerk Iain Burton, Simon left EMI a short time later. They formed an independent record label called Fanfare Records. (edit) Simon worked his way up to record producer at EMI Music Publishing, but left during the early 1980s to form E&S Music, an independent music company. (edit) Simon started out in 1979 as a mail room clerk for EMI Music Publishing, where his father was an executive. (edit) Simon had to transfer schools several times as a result of misbehaviour and bad conduct. Simon had been to a total of 16 schools before leaving at the age of sixteen. (edit) In 2006, Simon, as well as American Idol, were satirised in the film American Dreamz in which Hugh Grant played an essentially useless host and obnoxious judge of an American Idol-type show. In the same year, they were parodied in the Nickelodeon television episode "Fairy Idol" from The Fairly Odd Parents produced by Butch Hartman. (edit) Simon maintains a lavish lifestyle with several houses in San Francisco, California and one in London, England, a Ferrari and a Rolls Royce Phantom. Quotes

Simon: (on Britney Spears' apparent break-down) From where I sit, you could see it coming a long time ago. I said six months ago that she should go home. I'd have said, 'Stay with your mother, don't go out with your stupid friends, just live normally.' You'd be amazed - you live normally and suddenly everything becomes normal. (edit) Simon: For me, Il Divo was the best thing I had ever heard. (edit) Simon: (claiming he deserves to be paid more than Bruce Springsteen) I sell more records than Bruce Springsteen... If he got 100, I should have got 500. In the last five years, I've probably sold over 100 million records.By doing Idol I signed the biggest artist on the planet and it's called Idol because every single Idol winner is now signed through Sony BMG. (edit) Simon: If I tape an 11 hour day, guess which parts end up on air. Not the bits when I'm pleasant but the parts when I'm obnoxious. (edit) Simon: Normally, they want me to be rude to them. People come up to me and sing, and I say 'That was great. Thank you.' And they're like 'Well, aren't you going to be rude to me?' No! When I miss auditions, contestants get upset that I'm not there, because they expect me to be cruel to them--it's some sort of badge of honor. That's how crazy everything is. (edit) Simon (on Michael Jackson): The guy is off his rocker. (edit) Simon: If you would have asked me what I thought of America before I came over here I would have used the word 'corny'. And then you come over here and you find that it's not corny at all. British people are very cynical, they cannot bear someone else's success. Americans embrace other people's success. Everything in America is larger than life. (edit) Simon: I don't want babies the same way I wouldn't want a puppy. It's too much responsibility. (edit) Simon: I don't take myself seriously and I don't consider myself a star. (edit) Simon (when asked if he felt guilty about what he says to the "American Idol" contestants): No, what I am doing is kind by telling people who are useless 'Do something that you're good at'. So I would only feel guilt if I misled somebody who was terrible. (edit) Simon (on being Knighted): I'd accept an honour but I don't think I'm likely to get one. The Queen once described me as a dreadful man. (edit) Simon Cowell: We've done three seasons of American Idol and by now it is safe to assume that most people know that you have to be able to sing. But people turn up who can't sing a note and yet they believe they are the Second Coming. (edit) Simon: Let me tell you who's gonna be in the finals... the guy with the gray hair (on Taylor Hicks) (edit) Simon: Being romantic is being insincere, or you're guilty. (edit) Simon (about N'Sync): It would be true to say that two of them are really ugly. (edit) Simon: They all hate each other deep down, but they're not gonna say it on camera. Ask Kelly how many congratulation e-mails she got from the other contestants. Probably zero. But that's the music business. In a positive way, I like that. I like the fact that people enter the show because they might win. (edit) Simon: That process works very well, in that you've got a very clear A to Z path. But you've also got a sense of responsibility from the judges, who actually try to help the contestants. (edit) Simon: Not everybody is perfect, and I don't think we should be looking for perfect people. (edit) Simon: It is a personal thrill for me to play a role in giving the best young singers in America a shot at realizing their dreams. I'm also happy to be working with my good friend Simon Fuller for the foreseeable future and I look forward to continuing to be a part of the Fox network and the phenomenal success that is American Idol. (edit) Simon: I think you have to judge everything based on your personal taste. And if that means being critical, so be it. I hate political correctness. I absolutely loathe it. (edit) Simon: I think we've got better talent than last year. There are two or three contestants, even without the competition, we would take seriously as a record label. If I don't find an international artist this year, then I will have failed. That is the one thing that interests me. (edit) Simon: I like the fact that they're cocky now from the age of four. (edit) Simon: I haven’t done anything particularly harsh. Harshness to me is giving somebody false hopes and not following through. That’s harsh. Telling some guy or some girl who’ve got zero talent that they have zero talent actually is a kindness. (edit) Simon: I am happy that we have been able to sort out our differences and find an amicable solution to our problems. (edit) Simon: Big Brother is not reality anymore. You don't get 10 normal people to do it. You get 10 cr*p actors in the house. (edit) Simon: If you've got a big mouth and you're controversial, you're going to get attention. (edit) Simon: I can't bear political correctness. I don't like a rule driven life and I hate the fact that you can't criticise a fat person. (edit) Simon: The end of the animal trade would leave more time to trap or beat to death pop star wannabes. (edit) Simon: We (the English) have hated the French for years. Now you have just joined the club. It makes you much more likable. (edit) Simon: We told the judges that we would rather you were human about the approach rather than completely scientific, otherwise it turns into a gadget show. The show has a lot of similarities to Idol in that you can relate to the person coming into the room and form an opinion early on. (edit) Simon: Women say hello and then put their hands down my trousers. I thought it was my hand they were supposed to shake. (edit) Simon (on American Idol): Sit in these auditions for three weeks and hear I Believe I Can Fly out of tune for the millionth time, YOU try and be nice (edit) Simon: I met someone the other night who's 28 years old, and he hasn't worked a day since he left college because he's pursuing a dream he'll never, ever realize: He thinks he's a great singer. Actually, he's cr*p. But nobody has said to him, 'Why have you been wasting your time for eight years?' (edit) Simon: The object of this competition is not to be mean to the losers but to find a winner. The process makes you mean because you get frustrated. Kids turn up unrehearsed, wearing the wrong clothes, singing out of tune and you can either say, 'Good job,' and patronize them or tell them the truth, and sometimes the truth is perceived as mean. (edit) Simon: If I said to most of the people who auditioned, 'Good job, awesome, well done,' it would have made me actually look and feel ridiculous. It's quite obvious most of the people who turned up for this audition were hopeless. (edit)
